Out of work and desperate, Winn Busby accepts the only job available to her β¦ professional liar! Simple enough, until she meets a former political journalist determined to sniff out the truth about what sheβs up to. Charming, witty, and filled with sizzling passion, The Stand In, another great romantic comedy from author Rosanna Leo. Failed actress Winn Busby is at the end of her rope. With no money and no prospects, she accepts the one job she never thought sheβd see on her rΓ©sumΓ©. Professional bridesmaid. It should be easy. If only the idea of weddings and vows didn't give Winn a case of the hives. Her role becomes more challenging when she's told a reporter will shadow her work for a men's magazine article. Working for Player Magazine is Patrick Lincoln's worst nightmare. A former political journalist, he used to write thoughtful columns for one of Toronto's most respected papers. That is, until he was blackballed for allegedly sleeping with the boss's wife. Overnight, Patrick becomes the city's most reviled bad boy. And now he's forced to write a seedy expose on, of all things, a bridesmaid. Patrick begrudgingly accompanies Winn to a series of strange weddings. As they are forced to work together, he learns there is more to the stand-in bridesmaid than puffy dresses and pretty speeches. She, in turn, begins to question whether or not Patrick actually deserves the derision of his peers. As much as they fight their attraction, it begins to threaten their work and their sanity. For so long, Winn has felt second-best. A stand-in. She finally meets a man who believes in her value. But can she let go of the past and accept him? Content Notes: Hot, Contemporary, Romantic Comedy
Yet again another great read by Rosanna Leo. Leo never disappoints in bringing us a unique story with a plot unlike any other we have ever heard before. For this she remains one of my favorite authors ever.
Broke, heartbroken and unemployed, Wynn Busby needs a new direction and purpose to her life. First though she needs a new job. With bills to pay, at this point, any job will do, this out of work actress can’t be picky. A strange help wanted ad later, Wynn finds herself working as a stand-in bridesmaid for brides who need someone on their special day, but do not have any close friends they can ask. Left at the alter, minutes before her own wedding, Wynn could be soured on weddings. Instead she attends them, makes speeches and is the life of the party as a profession.
Enter a savvy but disgraced reporter bent on getting the real scoop on stand-in bridesmaids. I mean stand-in bridesmaids? Who does that? It must be a front for a prostitution ring or something else nefarious.
These two at first seem like night and day and as such you can’t wait for the fireworks to really begin. Toss in some over the top wedding shenanigans and this story will have you laughing out loud wondering if people really do this sort of thing.
Personally I had trouble keeping it narrowed down to only five friends in my own wedding party, so I find it strange to say the least, that someone would have to resort to hiring a complete stranger. The βwhat ifβ idea of that type of situation made this a story I couldn’t put down. Liberally interspersed with Hot Chocolate, pirates and runaway grooms, this is one not to be missed.
