In the new novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling β€œqueen of paranormal romance,” (J.R. Ward) a wounded warrior and a woman on the run find salvation, passion and unimaginable danger in the ghostly darkness of the Carpathian Mountains… He wasn’t civilized or tame. He had his own code and he lived by it.Monk. Bounty hunter. Vampire slayer. Andre Boroi has spent centuries battling the undead, holding out against the dark with honor. But now, gravely wounded by master vampire Costin Popescu, Andre will be easy to trackβ€”his spilled blood marking the killing trail for Popescu and his hungry band of underlings. Andre’s only chance is to disappear into the gray mist of the Carpathians. To wait. To hope. She had a healing touch and a scent that was his lifeblood. In the mountains in search of a precious crystal, geologist Teagan Joanes suddenly finds herself hunted by those she once trusted. Then she comes across the warriorβ€”wounded, wanting and irresistible. Andre has been craving her for an eternity: his lifemate. Her warmth envelops him. Her scent pulsates. And with every beat of her heart, Teagan surrenders to a passion she can’t possibly comprehend. Now they are bound by destiny, but is it enough to keep them safe from a stalking, relentless darkness that threatens to swallow them alive?

Dark Ghost is the twenty-seventh book in the Dark Saga by Christine Feehan.Β  While you don’t have to read the prior books to enjoy this book, it does help if you have read one or two.Β  That way you can understand the world that Ms. Feehan has created.

Andre Boroi is a Carpathian male who has spent centuries living as a monk, and a bounty hunter.Β  He has a goal that has kept me from turning into a vampire.Β  He is a strong male being able to survive the loneliness on the mountain without seeing anyone for months at a time.Β

Teagan Joanes is a geologist searching the mountain for crystals.Β  She has had a rough childhood but has survived and in turn thrived.Β  She loves her family and is very close to her grandmother.Β  However, Teagan finds out what happens when you trust the wrong person, but sometimes you need the dark stuff to find the perfect one for you.Β

The connection between Teagan and Andre is intense.Β  They make a great pair once Andre stopped trying to force Teagan to do what he wanted and got to know her better.Β  The biggest issue seems his old-fashioned values and wanting to protect her without understanding where she is coming from.Β

I found this book well written. The only issue with the book is that Ms. Feehan has a format for this series, and this book is not really different. The main characters and the secondary characters were fascinating.Β  While the ending was a predictable, this book is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader entertained. I had a hard time putting this book down.Β Β  Overall, this was a very wonderful book and I hope to see these characters again in the future.Β

Just a question about the review. If the plot, characters, writing, pacing, and cover all received 3 stars each, how is the overall review 4 stars? Does something else not listed above factor into the overall rating? I thought “overall” meant an average of sorts of the items listed above.? Just wondering about the review process, as I’m new to writing them and I’m required to for a book I won recently. Thank you!

    • Nicki,

The reviewer can gives an overall rating for the book (in this case a 4) but can also break down the other areas of the book with different ratings. We do not average all the other ratings into one. This allows the reviewer to give an overall rating, but give something slightly different if they feel a different area of the book was not to their liking or outstanding.

You have J R Ward listed in parentheses in the first sentence? As “queen of paranormal romance”? Hardly. Also, this review is about Christine Feehan’s book…maybe fix that issue with the incorrect author name? Ms. Feehan may be offended.

    • Nicki,

The blurb from the publisher is crediting JR Ward with calling Christine Feehan the “Queen of Paranormal Romance”.

      Thanks,

Wow. I totally didn’t get that, it being a quote from Ward for Ms. Feehan’s book. Sort of misleading, IMO, the way it reads to me. I figured it was some sort of blurb, not really written by you personally but maybe you forgot to note the “boo-boo” of sorts in your review? Like the “…(sic)” of days past, you know, indicating error of the text being quoted? Either way, it seems to refer to Ward as being the “queen” of PNR? Just bugged me, as a former fan of Ms. Ward myself. Thank you for clarifying for me, I didn’t intend to come across as accusatory or anything., as rereading my comment now sort of comes off. Sorry! I tend to “speak” before thinking, despite my first-grade teacher’s best efforts, lol.
