A lie turns to love in the latest novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Taming of the Billionaire.
Billionaire Sebastian Cabral loves his family, he just doesnβt love their reality TV show, The Cabral Empire. So when his ex-girlfriend tries to rekindle their relationship on camera, Sebastian decides that drastic measures are in order.
By day, Chelsea Hall is a happy-go-lucky, rough and tumble roller derby skater. By night, sheβs still living in fear of her past. Most of all, she just doesnβt want to be alone. And she really, really doesnβt want to date.
So when their mutual friendsβ upcoming wedding turns Chelsea and Sebastian into fast friends, they realize they can solve both of their problems with one life-changing lie: a quick trip down the aisle.
But with one kiss, Chelsea and Sebastian suddenly realize that their pretend relationship is more real than either of them expectedβ¦
This is the third installment of the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series and the second that I have read. One of the fun things about the book is that it runs concurrently with book #2, so it does very well as a stand-alone. Certain supporting cast members from other books pop over briefly, but they do not impact the storyline.
In this installment we meet Sebastian and Chelsea. He needs a way to avoid the craziness that is his motherβs reality show and his fame seeking ex. Chelsea is a little more complicated, she has a hard time living alone due to past trauma and her roommate just relocated due to work.
For some reason, these two form an instant bond when they meet and we follow them as they navigate from a βplatonicβ marriage to meet their needs to a real relationship.
The Billionaire Take a Bride has some cute, light hearted moments as well as endearing romantic times. Itβs almost impossible to not like Sebastien and Chelsea and you root for them to make it. The conflict between them is external and I actually felt a little bad for βMama Preciousβ as she was painted to really be a horrible person.
My problem with the story β and why I couldnβt give it a better rating β has to do with the way Chelseaβs trauma is treated. Sebastien is wonderful with her and Chelsea refers to having received therapy, but the idea that she needed a second βpersonaβ to be intimate with him just struck me as the wrong message to send.
Overall, this was a decent read. If you have enjoyed the other Billionaire and Bridesmaids books, you will probably enjoy this one too.
