Indie author, Izzy Szyn is with us today chatting about why she loves being an indie author. She’s also giving away an ebook copy of The Gathering box set and Phantasy House to one lucky winner. Help me in welcoming Izzy to Cocktails and Books.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BEING AN INDIE AUTHOR
IZZY SZYN
Before becoming an indie author, I was an indie reader. I love indie books for the reason I can get whatever type of book I am in the mood for, whether it be erotic, vampire, or romantic comedy. Before I discovered indie books, I would often at times be frustrated at the regular bookstores.
For instance vampires, with the exception of the big authors, vampires where they were not all blood and gore and actually the hero or heroine. But then I discovered small publishing houses like Changeling Press, Samhain and Ellora’s Cave and saw that they not only had the type of romances I was looking for but, even more shocking they had erotic romance.
When I finally decided to try to see if I can make this writing thing work, I knew without a doubt that I would become an indie author. Why? Because I can write when I want and how fast or slow. Some of my favorite indie authors were the biggest supporters when I made the decision to write. Rather than discourage, they encouraged. Authors like Cynthia Sax, Mina Carter were there for support.
What do I love about being an indie author? The chance to write what I want instead of someone in one of the big publishing houses telling me what will sell and what will not sell. The voices in my head (yes there are a lot in there vying for attention), cannot be told how to behave. They are the ones that are telling me their story.
While I would never say no to a big name publishing company who wants to pay me big bucks for my books (who wouldn’t?), I will forever be an indie author.
My book Bitten by Choice is in the Gathering Darkness Boxed set that releases today. In Bitten by Choice,
Becky Summers has not seen much of her favorite stepbrother since he started his new job. Out of all the stepsiblings she ha, Bryan was always her favorite. When he asks her out to dinner she jumps at the chance to catch up.
When they arrive at the restaurant for dinner, Becky is stunned to find out that Bryan has set her up. Instead of dinner, it is a recruiting session for Dark Cravings, an exclusive escort service that caters to vampires. They are hiring and they want Becky as their newest escort.
When she meets Bryan’s bosses, Hawke and Stefani she starts to think that just maybe Dark Cravings is where she belongs.
“Thanks.” Stefani walked over and stared into her eyes. “You have a beautiful body, it was hard to stop touching you. You feel the attraction too don’t you?”
Becky nodded helplessly, falling deeper under Stefani’s spell. “Yes, I have never been this attracted to anyone. Ever.”
“Have you ever kissed another woman?” Stefani stepped even closer.
“No.” Becky shivered as Stefani started to touch the delicate curve of her neck.
“Have you ever been tempted?”
“Not until tonight.” Becky confessed.
Stefani’s hands removed the towel. Moving her lips down Becky’s neck. Becky’s hands went around Stefani’s neck and kissed her back. What would it hurt to be with them, just for one night? Stefani brought Becky even closer and kissed her lightly. “If you want me to stop, say so now.”
“I don’t want you to stop.” Becky responded.
Coming up behind her, Hawke brushed her hair away from the back of her neck. Kissing the skin underneath, he slid his hands down Becky’s sides. “Are you sure?” Hawke asked her. “We are getting to the point of no return.”
Becky hesitated for a second before replying. Stefani looked disappointed before moving away. “Yes, I am sure. I want you. I want you both.”
What I love best in a hero is his determination, loyalty, honor, courage, his passion in all things, and his possessiveness of his love and beliefs.
