“Love at First Sight” is the fourth installment in the “Home” series. They’re all stand alone novels, so you don’t have to worry about any sort of order. In fact, I haven’t even read the first book yet 🙂
These books are very sweet and EXTREMELY sexy. I’ve never read a Cardeno C. character that I didn’t fall for. Here, we have Jonathan. He’s a young, relatively idealistic gay man. We first meet him at age 18. While on a trip to New York, he winds up in a hospital (Jonathan is a little clumsy.), where he finds the most beautiful man he’s ever seen. On the spur of the moment, he decides to move there and find that man. Once he’s there, he gets a phone call from his best friend, who he had sex with at a party (even though his best friend is a woman…strange circumstance). She’s pregnant, and she wants to give the baby up. He just can’t make himself sign those papers, so he brings little Samuel to New York with him. Sadly, Jonathan has to do some things he doesn’t want to do just to feed himself and the baby. He never finds his dream man, and he finally decides to go home. I’m not going to give too much more away, but let me just say Mr. Right is right there in his hometown.
Even though it seems like the book starts out on a sad/depressing note, but it’s really necessary to set up the romance part of the story. David is wonderful, and he made me smile right from the beginning. He puts his whole heart into his relationship with Jonathan. He’s accepting of his past, and he loves Samuel. He emits just so much warmth…along with being very sexy.
Speaking of sexy. Caredeno C. writes AWESOME sex scenes. There is just the right amount of sweet and dirty. They’re all romantic, but the pack such a punch. David and Jonathan are no exception. Through the story, they don’t get to see each other every day, so they make up for that every time they get together. I may be gushing, but it’s breathtaking.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. If I had to pick one thing that felt a little off to me was Samuel’s dialogue. He’s portrayed as two years old, but he’s very eloquent, speaking in full sentences. Yes, he’s smart and precocious, but I think it was a little too much. It’s not overly distracting, though. While Sam is an important character, my focus was on Jonathan and David.
I highly recommend “Love at First Sight”. It was the perfect way to spend an evening.
