Alec Grayson returns home to Falcon, Alabama, to rebuild his life after a knee injury ended his NFL career. As the Falcon high school quarterback coach, Alec's love for the game is reignited. Meanwhile, he puts his hard-partying past and the betrayal of the people he trusted most behind him, and adopts a hard demeanor. That is, until a spitfire artist with soulful eyes and a body that haunts his dreams gets under his skin and threatens to crack his armor.
Lilliana Hancock is forced to leave her struggling-artist lifestyle in New York and return to Falcon after her father's unexpected death leaves her a decrepit family mansion. Determined to use her skills to turn the home into a successful bed and breakfast, Lilliana is stopped at every turn by the town contractor, who happens to be Alec, the gorgeous and arrogant jock to whom she lost her virginity in college. Except Alec doesn't remember, which infuriates her. Too bad she can't forget the way his body felt against hers or how his heated gaze follows her...
Will they be able to put their pasts behind them for a future together?

I have been a fan of Laura Trentham’s Falcon Football series since discovering it with Slow and Steady Rush. Melting Into You continues the excellent story line by focusing on Alec and Lilliana, character that we got to know a little bit in the first two books.

Both Alec and Lilliana are fun characters who have a lot more going on than it first appears. When we first meet Alec, he is very serious and closed off. His college and NFL experience taught him not to trust people. Being with Lilliana opens him up, not only to her, but to the people around him who consider him a friend. Lilliana’s changes are a little more subtle as the book moves along; the core of her personality stays the same, but she becomes braver and more outspoken. These two are fun to watch together. They have great sexy time and several sweet, everyday couple moments.

One of the things I truly enjoy about Ms. Trentham’s writing is how accurately she captures the realities of small town living. She shows us the upsides, friends and neighbors caring for and helping each other out, and the downside of nosy extended family butting in where they don’t belong.

Melting Into You is also an example of great storytelling. Alec and Lilliana bring their mutual baggage and crash into each other with an encounter that could have easily been a one-time situation. Ms. Trentham then takes along on their journey from unconventional start, to friends and lovers, to happily ever after. It was nice to see Alec have moments of emotional vulnerability and how Lilliana seemed to just know what he needed.

I have enjoyed every entry in the Falcon Football series and hope to see more entries to the series in the future. While this is the third book, a reader could easily start here. The characters from books one and two are present and active members in the story, but their storylines do not drift over to confuse things.
