PLAY FAIR . . . OR PLAY TO WIN?
Falling in love with polar-opposite men was an intoxicating ride that nearly ended Sage Reese's life. Now it's time for Sage to decide: Parker, the clean-cut, filthy-rich business magnate . . . or Ryker, the tough-as-nails undercover detective. Her choice? Neither. Because she can't stand the thought of coming between two brothers-in-arms finally trying to repair their friendship.
Yet not everyone feels the same way, including a mysterious woman who's come to Ryker and Parker for help. Sage knows firsthand how hard it is for the two former Marines to resist a damsel in distress. But something just doesn't feel right.
Now there's a danger closing in that only Sage can see, and she intends to do everything she can to protect Parker and Ryker-even at the risk of losing them both.

Play to Win is the last installment of Tiffany Snow’s Risky Business Series and we are all dying to know who Sage Reese will pick: Ryker or Parker.  Sage Reese’s life has been turned upside down and she is just fighting to stay a tad bit normal.  She loves both men and doesn’t know how to choose.  All while she is trying to sort out her love life, there are criminals trying to kill her lurking in the background.

Ryker and Parker are in love with the same girl again and in the past, it didn’t end well.  Neither is ready to walk away at the beginning of this book and you love the back and forth between the two men and Sage.  Sage finally has enough and actually walks away from both of them.

As Sage stays away from the two of them, Tiffany gives us more twists and turns in the plot.  As the danger escalates, we quickly get a good feel for who Sage will choose.   I was happy with her choice and loved the ending of this series.  It definitely had a happy ending for everyone.

I highly recommend you pick up the Risky Business series as you will not be disappointed! I can’t wait to see what comes next from Ms. Snow!

interview

Candace and Felicia, two reviewers here at Cocktails and Books, put their heads together to interview one of their favorite authors, Tiffany Snow.

Your books are filled with great romance but also a lot of suspense and intrigue. What drew you into writing this type of genre?  No one does it better.

First, thank you very much!! I really appreciate the compliment! It’s funny you ask about the genre because I actually don’t read romantic suspense.  I never have because the ones I did try to read were always so short on romance and long on plot. I needed more romance with my suspense. The only romantic suspense series that really caught my attention was the Stephanie Plum series. But I grew frustrated with Stephanie’s inability to choose between Ranger and Morelli, so decided I’d write my own series with a love triangle and my heroine would CHOOSE, goshdarnit. Lol! I liked suspense because I think men with guns are hot and I’m a sucker for a good rescue for the damsel in distress.

What’s the appeal of love triangles? Do you feel like that is your favorite type of storyline?  We see it in both the Kathleen Turner series and the Risky Business series.  You’re extremely good at getting us enamored with both guys.

I’ve always loved reading love triangles and have a deep and abiding affection for the genre. I love the angst that comes with the heroine being in love with two people, plus as the author, I get to have two totally different heroes I can play with. *evil cackle* While Risky Business does have a love triangle, I don’t view it as a TRUE love triangle because the heroine doesn’t actually fall in love with both men the way Kathleen does in her series. With only three books in the series, I didn’t think I could make that realistic enough for the reader to buy into and I don’t believe in insta-love.

How do you research your books?

I love using tech in my books and there have been times when I’ve been surprised to see a plotline I’ve written echoed in a headline. The truth is far stranger than anything I could make up. I try to think of what motivates people, what scares them, what’s the worst-case-scenario? The Russian Mafia are featured in the Risky Business Series and they are very real and very dangerous. Other things I’ve touched on is human trafficking, Islamic terrorism, man-made viruses derived from Ebola, online election tampering, etc. Things based in reality but taken a bit further into the what-terrifies-us zone. So basically to answer your question: Google.

What is the process for mapping out your characters and their arc’s – especially through a trilogy like Risky Business?

I know where they’re starting in who they are as a person and what their relationships are with each other. I figure out where I want them to end up—are they going to be more cynical, less innocent, more trusting, in love (of course)—and then plot what events have to take place to get them from Point A to Point B.

What’s a genre you would love to write in but haven’t yet?

I’d love to do a contemporary romance/women’s fiction book. I have an idea that’s been swirling in my head for a while so perhaps I’ll buckle down and give it a shot.

Now that Risky Business is done what’s up next?

My next series is from Montlake Romance and will release on October 25th. The series and book aren’t yet titled, but the cover and titles should be coming soon. It features a young prodigy genius girl who gets drawn into a high-tech terrorist plot that she’s the unwitting architect of. She’s different and quirky, a cross between Jennifer Garner from Alias and Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory.

What is your typical day like? How much writing vs personal life vs all the PR/marketing that goes into a book?

Can I just say, I hate marketing. I’m not a marketing guru and everything is kind of a shot-in-the-dark as far as what works to sell books. I do know it sucks up a LOT of time and money. I try to get the kids off to school and settle in to work by nine am. Emails, Facebook, etc. consume the morning as I try to see what books of mine the publisher has on sale and in which market(s) so I can try to promote that via social media, my website, and my newsletter. I usually work until five or so, then try to spend the evening with the family. Though when a deadline is coming, I’ll usually work twelve hour days, six or seven days a week.

If you stop publishing with Montlake, would you self-publish?

Yes, I would. I do love writing and I think I’ll keep doing it no matter what. I’m so glad the industry is such that self-publishing is an option.

Ryker Catnip Teaser

excerpt

There might be better ways to wake up than sandwiched between two half-naked men, but if there was, I couldn’t imagine what it would be.

Early morning light filtered through the window blinds as I blinked a few times and debated whether I wanted to move.

We were sleeping spoon-style, all three of us, my front pressed against Ryker’s back with Parker cradling me from behind, his arm slung over my waist. It was warm and cozy and I felt like I never wanted to move.

They were both here, whole and safe. Ryker’s chest rose and fell steadily and I could feel Parker’s breath stir my hair. The terror from my nightmare seemed a world away. I felt safe with both of them looming over me in the bed, and I memorized the feeling. I’d felt unsafe too often lately.

God, what day was it? I’d lost track with all that had happened. It wasn’t like I had to get up for work. Last I’d checked, I was unemployed, thanks to telling my boss—the man currently spooning me— that I’d quit.

Not that I’d had much of a choice. Once you sleep with your boss and tell him you love him, that’s pretty much a Point of No Return right there. Or maybe that point had been when I’d dated (and yes, slept with) his arch frenemy—the man I was currently spooning.

Being hunted by Russian mafia bosses and hit men would turn any girl’s life into a soap opera, right?

Right.

I frowned, not wanting to think about the current disastrous state of my life. At this moment in time, everything was perfect, and I didn’t want to face reality. Not yet.

Unfortunately, reality didn’t feel the same way about me, because no sooner had I thought that than Parker’s arm tightened around me. He snuggled closer, close enough for me to feel that his body was most assuredly not undergoing any lasting side effects from Viktor’s torture, but was most wholeheartedly embracing the morning.

Okay, so I was a red-blooded woman who’d maybe read one too many romance novels, but the thoughts that flashed through my head weren’t of a high standard at that moment. I cursed ethics and morals and all those things that kept me from pressing my lips to Ryker’s naked back and pushing my hips back into Parker’s.

Oh, for a bottle of tequila and an inadequate respect for propriety…

As though he’d heard my thoughts, Ryker stirred, turning onto his back. My hand fluttered for a moment, then settled softly on his chest. His dog tags were tangled about his neck and my gaze wandered over his chest and ab muscles to the white bandage covering the burn.

I thought I should probably get up before I did something colossally stupid. It seemed my hormones wanted to celebrate the fact that we were all alive and well, an urge I heartily seconded but one which I doubted the men would appreciate very much.

Squirming a little, I tried to ease out of the smidge of space I was wedged into without waking either of them.

“If you leave me in bed alone with another man, I’ll have to fire you.”

Parker’s murmured words in my ear made me smile in spite of myself.

“You can’t fire me. I already quit, remember?”

“Yes, but I was hoping you didn’t.”

“So much for wishing this didn’t really happen,” Ryker interrupted, cracking his eyes open and slanting a look at me.

“Pretend it’s the zombie apocalypse,” I suggested. “We’re huddling for warmth and survival.”

His lips twitched. Then his gaze fell to where Parker’s arm was around me, and even that tiny smile faded entirely.

Yep. Time to cut this short, since it looked like I was the only one already composing a letter to Penthouse Forum in my head.

yes, sometimes I do like a love triangle in a story; it give a bot more tension to a story.

  2. Silvia Fugate

Love triangles are way to messy and end up hurting to many people in the end.
In a fictional story they are interesting though because it adds some intensity to the story.

  3. Roselle Torres

Yes, I enjoyed reading a love triangle story but then I hate cheating so I still have this hope that the story goes a little less drama

  4. Lisa M

    I do and I don’t … lol
I love to READ about them but I wouldn’t want to be in one! LOL
They add to a story … and emotional tug of war … tension … it intensives the story

  5. Linda Henderson

Sometimes I like them, but not usually all the time. I do want to see a happy ending though.
