Their love led to a lie.
Their truth led to the end.
Scottish enigma Brigs McGregor is crawling out from the ashes. After losing his wife and son in a car accident - and, subsequently, his job - he's finally moving forward with his life, securing a prestigious teaching position at the University of London and starting a new chapter in the city. Slowly, but surely, he's pushing past the guilt and putting his tragic past behind him.
Until he sees her.
Natasha Trudeau once loved a man so much she thought she'd die without him. But their love was wrong, doomed from the start, and when their world crashed around them, Natasha was nearly buried in the rubble. It took years of moving on to forget him, and now that she's in London, she's ready to start over again.
Until she sees him.
Because some loves are too dangerous to ever rekindle.
And some loves are too powerful to ignore.
Can you ever have a second chance at a love that ruined you?
The Lie is a second-chance romance with a dark, forbidden twist.

I couldn’t wait to read this story after meeting Brig’s.  He seemed like he had a tragic story to tell.  Karina Halle delivered a heartbreaker.  Brig’s has suffered an immense loss.  His wife and young son are killed in a car accident that he believes he caused.  Brig’s much like many people is caught in a loveless marriage.  He respects his wife and the sanctity of marriage but he knows he can’t live such an unhappy, loveless life.  He realizes this when he meets Natasha.  A student who is helping him with his research project.  They try to stay away from one another but the pull is too strong.  Unfortunately, events unfold that tear them apart and they both suffer greatly.

Four years pass and Brigs is trying to move on as he starts a new life in London.  Fates collide and he runs into Natasha on campus.  They both don’t know what to do with each other.  The feelings are still there and are intense but the hurt and pain from the past stands in the way.

The story flows beautifully and I loved the dual POV.  I don’t think the story would resonate as well if it wasn’t told from Brig’s and Natasha’s POV.  The one problem I had with The Lie was I felt there wasn’t enough angst…I know…wasn’t the beginning of their story enough?!  Maybe, but I felt like they got back together with little or no problems which seemed a bit strange to me.  I do think they both seemed very real and honest but I expected their to be more drama between them over the past.

This story much like the others in this series was an easy read and skillfully written.  I never hesitate to one click Karina Halle.  She never disappoints.
