Just Married Again by Charlotte Hughes was a fun read. While there were serious moments and issues throughout, this is a mostly light-hearted read. Readers will enjoy the “Murphy’s Law” scenarios and coincidences—like the estranged Michael and Maddy ending up at their vacation cabin at the same time.
Michael and Maddy are likeable characters. They are separated and soon to be divorced. They both decide that a getaway is in order to do some soul-searching. Each of them realize their mountain cabin could be the perfect spot to spend Thanksgiving and take advantage of the solitude. We all know how the best laid plans tend to turn out…
There are many surprises in store for Michael and Maddy—as well as the reader. No one expected that Michael’s nephew would be a stowaway in his car, basically running away from home. Add that to a severe snowstorm, unplowed roads, limited resources and two cooped up dachshunds—along with the heavier issues that plagued the failed marriage—and you wonder if Michael & Maddy stand a chance.
Readers will be rooting for Michael and Maddy to reconcile. They are clearly meant to be together, but changes would need to be made in order for them to “work”. I enjoyed this book. It was easy to get into and to read. This one is a nice little escape!
