Review: Rewriting the Rules by S. Moose

This was my first S. Moose book.  I’d heard from other readers how much they loved her books and I thought I’d give her latest a try.

Charlotte has been in love with Troy, her brother’s best friend, since she was a young teenager.  When they finally started dating, while they were both at college, they agreed to wait to tell her brother of their relationship until after she graduated.  Unfortunately, for these two, Charlotte’s brother (who’s raised her since their parents died) makes a few comments that cause Charlotte to break the vow she made to Troy.

Fast forward several years, Troy has a thriving business and Charlotte comes running to his aide after breaking up with her boyfriend.  Soon, all the hurt and anger falls away and these two pick up where their relationship fell off.

I like angst in my New Adult romances, but this angst was a little too high school~ish for me.  Charlotte leaving Troy high and dry in the first place was a sore point for me, but it was made even worse by the fact that Troy just let it happened.  You love this woman, yet when she stops talking to you, you let it go?  And Charlotte.  Troy is the love of her life yet she  lets a comment by her brother dictate the course of her life because she thinks she owes it to him?  I couldn’t get past this.  It seemed like a silly reason for this couple to not be together.  And let’s not mention Charlotte’s brother’s over-the-top reaction to finding out about the two of the, considering what he had going on.  It was all enough for me to get through to the end and be done.

I’m sure others will enjoy this story (and probably already have).  But I just couldn’t get behind the reason for our hero and heroine splitting up, staying apart and then reconciling later.
