DIRTY is the first book in Kylie Scott’s new Dive Bar series and since I loved her Stage Dive series, I was excited to read this one. The story begins as Lydia leaves her groom at the altar when she discovers he is more interested in his best man, than her. As she quickly tries to get away before anyone notices, she takes cover in Vaughan’s shower, by going through his bathroom window. I found this part of the story hilarious. Vaughan, an out of work musician, is of course, surprised to find Lydia in his shower. Even though Vaughan and Lydia are different from each other, there is one thing they have in common, both of their lives have recently changed dramatically and they are trying to decide what to do next. The story is about how they deal with their problems, figure out their futures and of course, fall in love along the way. I admire Lydia’s courage and independence. She is a straight talking plus sized girl, who isn’t afraid of a fight.
This is a fun, light story and different from the Stage Dive series. I enjoyed the beginning of the story as Lydia runs away from her wedding, because I love runaway bride stories and it was funny. The problem I had with this story is I had a hard time connecting with Vaughan and Lydia and I didn’t feel any chemistry or spark between them.
