A rocker gets a taste of unexpected passion in the latest red-hot Rock Star Romance from the award-winning author of I Want You to Want Me.   Calix Bourbon might seem like a free spirit, but that’s all a front. In reality he’s just trying to keep his fractured family together while working as a session musician. When Blue Fire hires him to replace their keyboardist, Calix is determined to make the most of the opportunityβ€”but he can’t help being distracted by the band’s sexy personal chef.   Mimi’s temporary gig is great, but she has her heart set on auditioning for a televised cooking show. There’s just one problem: she only has a week to acquire the skills necessary to survive the competition. Luckily, the band’s new keyboard player can teach her exactly what she needs, in the kitchen and in the bedroom...

As a first book by this author, I must say it was a pretty good introduction to her work. I won’t pretend to understand to correlation between a rock band and an herbalist farm growing lavender. Perhaps that’s one of those things I would understand if I had started this series with book one instead of book three. That being said, having begin with this particular book, the story was easy to follow. It reads perfectly well as a stand alone novel in my opinion. Although, I would recommend reading the previous books in the series in order to get more background on the characters.

Although I had issues connecting with Calix, I found him to be a quitter and surprisingly selfish at times considering his home situation, I enjoyed the overall story line. I felt his treatment of Mimi was immature and he was undeserving of Mimi. Calix basically coasts through life with no goal or aspirations and he appears to be doing nothing to change that.

However, as strange as it sounds, my reasons for disliking Calix are the very reasons for liking Mimi’s character. The character of Mimi is one we are all familiar with. She has that need to constantly seek her parents’ approval. The need to prove that she is good enough. We’ve all been there at some point. She has this inherent need to make sure all of those around her are happy which is sure to connect with readers. At times even to her own detriment. When Calix pushes her away, she takes it in stride and continues to do things her way to help, even when he implies he no longer wants her help and struts his ex in her face. She’s a strong character even as she’s floundering, bending over backwards to please her father. She definitely made up for the deficiencies in Calix’s character flaws.

Overall, an enjoyable read with great characters and engaging plot. I would definitely recommend if you enjoy stories with strong females who know what they want and go after it.
