Wedding season has arrived in New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe’s next novel in the β€œdistinct, complex, and endearing” (Charleston Magazine) Lowcountry Summer series, set against the romantic, charming Charleston Lowcountry.
Nothing could be more enchanting than a summer weddingβ€”or two!β€”in Charleston’s fabled lowcountry. A centuries-old plantation, an avenue of ancient oaks dripping moss, a storied ballroom, a sand dune at sunset…
Yet when a stranger arrives, a long held family secret could silence the bells ringing for the Muir sisters. Scandals surface, family bonds are questioned, and promises are broken and renewed. In A Lowcountry Wedding Monroe delves into the heart of marriage, commitment, and family ties. Huffington Post calls the Lowcountry Summer series β€œthe perfect beach read and a whole lot more.”

My feelings on this book might have been different if I had read the prior books in the series, but I didn’t, so you get to see what I thought based on this one by itself. This is a stand-alone book, but it definitely follows up on things that happened in previous books.

A Low Country Wedding is well written and an interesting snap shot into the stress that wedding can put families and couples through. There are stresses between established couples, families, and even a family secret thrown in for good measure.

I enjoyed getting to know the Muir granddaughter and their future spouses as the big days approached. Some of their problems were on a grand scale, but I think all of the issues addressed are dealt with by families and couples everywhere.

It took me a while to read A Low Country Wedding, but it was like an old friend waiting for me when I could get back to it. Ms. Monroe is an author I’d be glad to come back to.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
