There is speculation that he killed a girl...
Journalist Hannah Black has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: Get the exclusive story from the Chicago Bears’ new starting quarterback, Derek Cage. There’s only one problem—Derek refuses to talk to reporters. The son of a famed Illinois senator, this football star despises the media.
Hannah has never been one to follow orders, especially when she wants something. When her new assignment tries to give her the brush off, Hannah won't take no for an answer, going to extremes to get the attention of this superstar athlete.
Drawn to her quirky questions and die-hard persistence, Derek begins opening up to this rookie reporter, and he can’t stay away no matter how hard he tries.
As the two get closer, Hannah finds herself falling for the enigmatic quarterback. But nothing’s ever easy. As a decade old secret comes to light, Hannah has to decide how far she’ll go and how many lines she’s willing to cross to keep Derek safe.
Is uncovering the truth worth the risk of losing it all?

I have to say, I wasn’t sure what to expect from BREAKING CAGE. The blurb had me intrigued. But when I delved into the story, I found myself absolutely in love with the very broken Derek Cage and hoping he could find his HEA.
Hannah Black is a reporter who’s assigned to get the new Bears’ quarterback, hometown boy Derek Cage’s story. She’s new to Chicago and seems like the perfect in for not only Hannah’s employer to break Derek’s story, but for Hannah to start over. What no one, least of all Derek and Hannah, expect are for these two to have instant chemistry and for Derek’s family ghost to haunt them all.
Derek was a broken man. Traumatized by the death of his mother and his high school girlfriend, he’s closed himself off from everyone and lives a very solitary life as he uses football to try to curb his bad temper. But when he meets Hannah, she starts breaking down the walls Derek has built around himself just by being near him. No matter how much Derek tries to fight his feelings or protect Hannah, he finds he can’t stay away. And we really don’t want him to stay way.
Hannah brings out a side to Derek that has been stunted by tragedy. He starts becoming the man he should have been had he had people who stood behind him and proved to him that he was loved. That’s all he craved and the moment he got that unconditional love, he started to change.
The relationship with Hannah and Derek was pretty easy (for the most part). They had to navigate new relationship issues while at the same time fighting off the ghosts of Derek’s crazy family, but as they learned to lean on each other it helped Derek understand what it was he felt for Hannah and know he never wanted to let that go.
I really enjoyed this book and the romance between Derek and Hannah. Derek was a great alpha male, with the perfect mix of broken man and strong alpha. I’ll definitely be looking for more from this author.
