From New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot comes the sweetly humorous story of a man who has to face his past in order to find his future.
Sometimes to move forward, you have to go backβ¦
One post. Thatβs all it took to destroy the care free, glamorous life of pro golfer Reed Stewart. One tiny post on the Internet.
Then again, itβs not like Reedβs been winning many tournaments lately, and his uncle isnβt the only one who says itβs because of the unfinished business he left behind back home in Bloomville, Indianaβnamely Reedβs father, the Honorable Judge Richard P. Stewart, and the only girl Reed ever loved, Becky Flowers.
But Reed hasnβt spoken to either his father or Becky in over a decade.
Until that post on the Internet. Suddenly, Reedβs family has become a national laughingstock, his publicist wonβt stop calling, his siblings are begging for help, and Reed realizes he has no other choice: Heβs got to go home to face his past . . . the Judge and the girl he left behind.
Beckyβs worked hard to build her successful senior relocation business, but sheβs worked even harder to forget Reed Stewart ever existedβwhich hasnβt been easy, considering heβs their hometownβs golden boy, and all anyone ever talks about. It was fine while they were thousands of miles apart, but now heβs back in Bloomville. She has absolutely no intention of seeing himβuntil his family hires her to help save his parents.
Now Reed and Becky canβt avoid one anotherβ¦or the memories of that one fateful night.
Can the quirky residents of Bloomville bring these two young people back together, or will Reed and Becky continue to allow their pasts to deny them the future they deserve?
This warm, thought-provoking book, told entirely in texts, emails, and journal entries, is as much about the enduring bond of families as it is about second chances at love, and will delight as much as it entertains.

The Boy is Back is part of the Boy series by Meg Cabot, but it is the first in this series I have read. I have read other Meg Cabot books and find her writing to be witty and entertaining. However, this one did not hold my attention as some of her other books. The story is told entirely in texts, journal entries, emails, and internet posts amongst the characters. Some of the characters were likeable and others were pretty unforgettable.
Reed and Becky are reunited under odd circumstances, so that part of the plot is kind of entertaining. He hasnβt been back to their hometown since his dad basically disowned him. Now, his parents & siblings need him so he makes the sacrifice of coming home. An unexpected benefit of that is spending time with Becky again. I didnβt find Reed and Beckyβs exchanges all that interesting, but his brother Marshall & his wife Carlyβs texts were hilarious. They were spot on the way married couples interactβat least in my house! I also loved Uncle Lyleβs emails back and forth with Reed. He was funny, understanding, wise, and loving, just like an uncle should be.
Perhaps if I had read other books in the Boy series I would have enjoyed this one more. It is fun read, and if you are already a Meg Cabot fan then you will enjoy it.
