I head to the door, still clutching at a piece of peppermint chocolate and trying to dissolve the large piece in my mouth. Swinging open the door I yell, βWhat the hell, bitch?β
Saxonβs eyes are wide and he has an amused grin on his face. βWell, good morning to you too.β
My mouth is hanging open, and I know all the blood has rushed from my face. Iβm shocked and not only because Saxon is here, but because he stands before me in dark wash jeans with a tight black t-shirt. It has been years since Iβve seen him in anything but a suit or tuxedo. He looks so much younger dressed casually. Less stressed and almost moreβ¦ carefree.
Shaking those thoughts, I meet his eyes. βI thought you were Rach. What do you want?β My words come out more harshly than I intended, and Saxonβs smile turns to a frown, his eyes losing their sparkle.
My stomach twists and thereβs something about him frowning which turns my gut. I donβt like it. βIβm sorry, I didnβt mean it like that. Iβm just surprised to see you. Whatβs up?β I ask in a much more friendly tone.
He looks up at me, nervousness shining in those bright green eyes. βI wanted to see if I could take you out today?β The confident, cocky Saxon is gone, and I wouldβve never believed this insecure one existed underneath.
He wants to take me on a date? Hell no.
βBugger, Iβm actually just on my way out,β I say with fake disappointment.
Saxon raises his eyebrows at me, and the cocky bastard is back. βReally?β he says as he looks me up and down. I follow his eyes down to my outfit.
Sometimes even I canβt believe how stupid I am. I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest in defiance, as I also remember not only am I in my flannel pyjamas but I donβt have a bra on. He smiles a cocky smile while looking at my chest, clearly letting me know he caught that also.

βSo,β I start, βtwo hundred online dates; thatβs a lot. Did you date much before you went online?β
Before Carl answers, he reaches over and takes a fry off my plate. βYeah, two hundred. I have been online for a few years now. What about you?β
I stare, my eyes wide as I watch him eat the stolen fry. βYou are my first online date, actually.β
Carl leans over again and this time grabs two fries off my plate. What. The. Fuck?
βWow, a newbie. How are you finding it?β he says, as he shoves my fries into his mouth.
I know whatβs going to come next so I quickly answer him. βYeah, great,β I say, before I pick up three fries and shove them into my mouth, followed quickly by another two fries. The heat of the fresh fries burns my mouth, but I donβt even care.
He leans over and once again grabs two fries. It takes everything in me not to stab his fingers with my fork.
Thereβs no way heβs eating all my dinner. I begin shovelling fries in my mouth. I stab furiously with my fork, picking up as many fries as I can before trying to fit them all in at once.
Carl leans over again and mustnβt see the glare I give him as he picks up a piece of my chicken and pops it between his lips. βMmm,β he mumbles as he eats my chicken. My freaking chicken.
Is this guy for real? I am not one of those girls who doesnβt like to eat. I donβt go out with guys to only order a salad and nibble at it for three hours. I donβt share food, dammit.
The meal continues like this, except I canβt shovel in as much food as Carl can, so before I know it, Carl has polished off my parmigiana as well as his own steak. How can such a skinny guy eat so much damn food?
I have no idea what we even talked about the whole time as I was too consumed in trying to protect my dinner. Thankfully, Carl doesnβt eat salad, so he did leave that right alone. Awesome.
I sense Tate approach as a shadow falls over the table and his cologne fills the air, but Iβm too busy pouting to look up at him and enjoy the sight.
βHow were the meals?β he asks.
βFantastic. Very authentic,β Carl answers.
I donβt bother answering as, letβs face it, I barely got a taste.
βWould you like to order some dessert? We have homemade Italian pastries.β
βOh God, I couldnβt possibly fit another thing,β Carl says as he rubs his flat belly. Fucker.
Gritting my teeth, I try to fight the urge to jump over the table and strangle him.
βWell, maybe Harper would like something,β Tate says to Carl.
βNo thanks,β I say, my voice cold and disinterested. Whatβs the point? Heβll probably eat it anyway. I just want this nose-dive of a date to be over.
