three-half-stars

At eleven he was my first crush. At sixteen he became mine. At nineteen he broke my heart and destroyed me. That was ten years ago and the last time I saw Cole Ryan.

They say you never get over your first love...I beg to differ. I left my shattered heart buried in a town I never expected to return to. I erased every thought of him and buried the memories never to be found.

I moved on...now ten years later I have the perfect life, the perfect fiancΓ©, the perfect career. Everything I ever wanted until I'm forced to go back and face my past and the man that destroyed me.

He won't stop until I know the truth no matter how hard I fight it. In the end, lies will be uncovered, hearts will be broken, and my life as I've come to know it destroyed.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

I’ve been on a second-chance romance kick lately so when I was given the chance to read this one, I jumped on it.

Ten years prior, Cole had purposefully broken Frankie’s heart.Β  She didn’t know why he did what he did, but it caused her to run away from their hometown and abandon her family to hide from the pain she still wasn’t over.Β  But when a family emergency brings her back home, she’s forced to face why she left and how to reconcile the past from the present.

I wanted to love this story.Β  It was obvious these two still harbored deep feelings for the other, but I couldn’t understand with those feeling why they let 10 years go by.Β  Frankie’s hurt made sense, but to fall so quickly back into those feelings just let me wonder why’d they wait.

Fans of Rebecca Shea will love this book, but my questioning of why took away from the reconnection to fully enjoy the essence of the story.
