Ms Davenport is an author I’ve enjoyed reading in the past, especially her books featuring Seattle based athletes. I curious to see her take on a romantic suspense, especially after meeting Bronson, our detective hero, in a previous book.
Stylistically, this isn’t that different from the other books of Ms. Davenport’s that I have read. The blurb made the book sound dark and a little scaring, but it’s really not. I’m not actually sure this is a true romantic suspense, it seems more a romance with a suspenseful sub plot.
I enjoyed Gone Missing, it was an entertaining story told in broad strokes and avoiding diving too deeply. Character development issues are dealt with and we see both Becca and Bronson evolve into stronger individuals that are easy to root for.
There were a couple of things that kept this from being a higher rated book for me. The first is abrupt way Bronsonβs niece and nephew join the cast of characters. It felt a bit rushed to me. Β The second thing that caused the story to have a lower rating was a giant plot hole at the very beginning of the story. While I understood the reasoning why Becca and Bronson entered into the relationship they did, a key conversation was missing from the story.
Overall, this a story worth reading, it just isn’t my favorite from Ms. Davenport
With a missing father, a murderous brother, and a marriage of convenience, Becca Gatlinburg’s life is one hot mess…and it’s about to get hotter.
After overhearing her brother plotting a murder, Becca is desperate to find out the truth behind her family’s business dealings and her father’s disappearance. She makes a deal with the devil–a gorgeous, irreverent soldier turned PI. She’s in over her head and sinking fast.
The last thing Bronson Warner ever wanted was to be a groom. The second to the last thing he ever wanted was to be a dad. Through a weird twist of fate, he’s now both within the span of a few weeks. His solitary life has been turned upside down and stomped on by a wife who’s his exact opposite and teenagers who have their own tragic secret, and it’s his responsibility to keep them all safe.
As Bronson strives to protect his new family, he realizes not only are their lives in danger, but so is his heart.
