Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Wildfire Marketing in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.
I have a confession to make. I have a couple of pet peeves when it comes to books, things that absolutely set my teeth on edge. One of those things happened early on in This is Wild; it didnβt impact the flow of the story, but it did make it harder for me to connect with Zoe and Viktor.
Once I did get into the flow of the story, I enjoyed getting to know both characters. Zoe ended up being much more sensitive than I would have expected from seeing her in previous books and Viktor was an all around good guy making the most of his second chance.
This is Wild also takes a hard look at the road after rehab and what someone needs to do to have continued success. The honesty in which Viktor deals with the situation is impactful and makes the slow burn of his friendship/relationship with Zoe that much more interesting.
My one real βcomplaintβ about This is Wild is that I really wanted to see Zoe and Viktor together a little bit more. Their attraction to each other was very obvious and it was clear they had more than friendly feelings towards each other, but the first βI love youβ came at a point when most of their interactions had been in group or professional settings. I believed Zoe when she said it, but at the same wondered βhowβ and was it really love or a crush.
I do have to caution new readers to Ms Madisonβs work, while this is technically a stand alone, I would not start reading here. The large and interconnected secondary cast features the main characters from the Something So series and other This is books. I would suggest at least reading the other This is stories so the relationships make more sense.
Overall, this was an entertaining addition to the series. Long time readers will appreciate the updates seen about previous featured characters and we see a little more from secondary characters that will be making appearances soon.
My parents told me I skated before I walked. When I was eighteen I was drafted
into the N.H.L third overall, playing in Los Angelesβthe city of dreams. What
more could I ask for? I played hard, but eventually, I partied even harder.
Five years later I was traded a week after I entered rehab. There was no time
for anything except my health and making sure Iβd come out on top. I had to be
better. There wasnβt another option.
βdonβt fall in loveβ and I made it a top priority. She was off limits in every
single way.
When you grow up surrounded by hockey players you know one thing for sure, I
was never going to settle down with one. Heck, I didnβt even know what icing
was. I was too busy climbing the corporate ladder, becoming one of the most
successful realtors in New York City. I wasnβt interested in dating or anything
that got in my way.
he became my friend.
can derail everything.
only certain that, This is Wild.
flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals.
You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or
possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her
characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
