I’m not sure there is anything Marie Force cannot do well!
In Deceived by Desire, she returns to her early 20th century historical series. This installment is set in Newport, RI and features a previously seen secondary character, Aubrey. This stand-alone effort focuses on Aubrey’s “scandalous” relationship with Maeve – an Irish woman he meets while she is working for his family.
Aubrey and Maeve are both entertaining, dynamic, and likable characters. I enjoyed their interactions from the very beginning and found the plot device to bridge their social gap to be unique and very well handled. It also serves as the perfect set up for the external conflict that was to come later.
The seamless way in which Ms Force blends high society social drama, family politics, and a budding romance speaks to her skill as a storyteller. Add in a stellar secondary cast and this is a fast paced historical that I can highly recommend. Aubrey’s group of friends has one remaining bachelor, I am hoping we will see Justin’s story coming soon.
