Emma Scott is a newish author to me, so Iβm not 100% sure what to expect when reading her work. That said, Someday, Someday was an excellent read that kept me guessing as to what would happen next.
The main characters are Max, a recovering addict who turned his life around to become a nurse, and Silas, a young man trying desperately to earn his fatherβs approval.
While Someday, Someday is a romance in the sense that the developing relationship between Max and Silas is one of the plot lines, it is also much more than that. We also see Max work on repairing family relationships lost when his sexual identity came out as a teenager and Silas fighting to claim his identity, do the right thing for his familyβs business, and try to protect/help his beloved brother.
All of these different plot points, plus the elements of addiction and PTSD addressed sound like the book should be a hot mess. The fact that the book is compelling with characters that I found myself rooting for speaks to Ms Scottβs excellent story telling. The various pieces of the story are woven together in such a way that that everything flows well and the multiple relationships in the book get their resolution. I enjoyed the emotional growth and development of all the characters- especially Max and Silas.
Loyal readers of Ms Scott will see glimpses/references to some of her other books, but this is very much a standalone effort. Some of the subject matter makes for a darker, more serious read, but definitely one to be enjoyed.
How long would you wait for true love?
