In Southern Secrets, we rejoin the families we have been spending time with. This time we are getting to know Amelia and ranch hand Asher.
These two are interesting characters with issues they are holding close to the vest. I enjoyed seeing them get over themselves to finally give romance a try, but as with all books in this series it can’t be that simple. Ms Madison does an excellent job of throwing a complete ringer into the works and leaving us very surprised.
I appreciated Amelia’s need to be independent and found it entertaining to see that balance with Asher’s need to protect (not to mention the extended cast and their Alpha tendencies).
The one place I struggled with Southern Secrets was the size of the secondary cast. Some of the family didn’t necessarily need to be in this one and having them in the story as much as they were gummed the works a bit in terms of keeping everyone straight. This is the 7th book in the series and given that it’s a multigenerational group, the cast is getting almost too big.
If you are new to the series, I would not suggest starting with this book – there is back story that needs to be read and it is 3 or 4 books back. I am curious to see where this series will go next!
Amelia
Never make the same mistake twice is my motto.
After being left in the dust of an old pickup truck, I promised that I would take care of myself
and never trust another man with a sexy smirk and cowboy boots.
Then he showed up, and he’s everywhere I turn. He’s at the barn, he’s at the bar, and now, he’s my roommate.
He makes me want things I shouldn’t
Asher
I grew up in foster care, and on my eighteenth birthday, I was set free.
I spent years coasting from town to town.
Staying wasn’t a part of my plan and neither was love, especially with someone off limits.
This was all supposed to be temporary.
I’m just hoping my secret doesn’t destroy the only family I’ve ever known.
Buried secrets are never buried for long.
