A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston.
Florence Day is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, and she has a problemβafter a terrible breakup, she no longer believes in love. Itβs as good as dead.
When her new editor, a too-handsome mountain of a man, wonβt give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye. But then she gets a phone call she never wanted to receive, and she must return home for the first time in a decade to help her family bury her beloved father.
For ten years, sheβs run from the town that never understood her, and even though she misses the sound of a warm Southern night and her eccentric, loving family and their funeral parlor, she canβt bring herself to stay. Even with her father gone, it feels like nothing in this town has changed. And she hates it.
Until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlorβs front door, just as broad and infuriatingly handsome as ever, and heβs just as confused about why heβs there as she is.
Romance is most certainly dead . . . but so is her new editor, and his unfinished business will have her second-guessing everything sheβs ever known about love stories.

This was one of those books that I absolutely adored, from start to finish. It was the timing of the read along with the quirkiness of Florence and her budding relationship with Ben that drew me in.
These two had a rough introduction, with Ben taking a hard stance on Florence’s deadline (she’s a ghostwriter for a beloved romance writer) on her latest manuscript, but their “relationship” really grew when she was back home for her father’s funeral. I enjoyed Florence learning to let go of everything that has weighed down on her and realize that no matter what happened when she was younger or with her ex…her family and true friends are always there for her. But most importantly, it was the way Florence and Ben learned from each other and grew as people. Both of them had a lot of baggage that needed to be unpacked and dealt with and it was the easiness of their interactions with one another that helped both of them figure out just what they wanted out of life.
The perfect weekend/beach read. If you’re looking for something that has a little bit of everything…this is the read for you.
